OverseerFM updated to version 6.5.13

dairy cows ready for milking

The update of the Overseer model to version 6.5.13 includes two significant feature updates.

  • The full release of Chemical Mitigation of Effluent Methane (commonly known as EcoPondTM).
  • Support for flexible milking strategies.

The Overseer team have worked with the teams at Lincoln University, Ravensdown and DairyNZ on the development of these updates.

Chemical Mitigation of Effluent Methane was introduced to Overseer in version 6.5.7 as a Beta release, while an independent scientific review of the model processes took place. This release represents a full release of the modelling for the technology.

Al Taylor, Chief Customer Officer at Overseer comments “I’ve known Keith and Di (Emeritus Professor Keith Cameron ONZM and and Professor Hong Di ONZM), since the early 2000s when I was still based in Europe and we did some work together. It’s been a pleasure having the team collaborate with them to bring this exciting new technology fully into the Overseer model”.

“The mitigation is currently available to farmers with the EcoPondTM system developed by Ravensdown and Lincoln University. The application of the technology to dairy effluent systems has demonstrated significant reductions in methane (CH4) emissions, achieving up to a 96% decrease. Having the technology within Overseer enables farmers & their processors to understand the impact the system may have on each farm”.

Al continues, “We’ve also worked with the experts at DairyNZ to take the lessons from their “Technology & Workplace Practises Survey” and use them to update the way we enable users to enter milking frequencies. This means it is now much easier for users to model more flexible milking frequencies like 3 in 2 and 10 in 7, and changes in frequency during the season”.

As part of our OverseerFM service, all farm analyses were updated to version 6.5.13 where the farm account had a current paid subscription. All publications were also updated. OverseerSci and OverseerEd software services will be updated in the coming days.
